Back in 2015, my friend Michael and I began recording songs together, which became the foundation of turning my little bedroom solo project into an actual band.
On the weekends we’d take my Tascam 8-track and record the basic tracks in different locations...Michael's backyard, his driveway, my garage, our rehearsal room, and one time literally on a mountain. For the latter, we drove up to the Santa Monica mountains - on the way we stopped at the beach to record the sound of the Pacific Ocean (which is what you hear at the end of “water”) - and eventually we found a quiet/desolate spot that appeared to be free of snakes and lions, set up and banged out a couple takes. As it turns out, none of those places were all that conducive to recording, but we had made some good memories and used the recordings to recruit band members and book shows.
So with the start of the new year I've been cleaning up/organizing my old material...and I thought, what better time than now to dust off these old recordings and "officially" release them. Which brings me to this raw, no-frills, dare I say folky EP of songs from those 2015 sessions. Inspired by Wild Honey era Beach Boys, Neil Young and Mojave 3, this mellow little fellow is out now on all streaming platforms, complete with a pic of Michael's drum kit perched atop the Santa Monica mountains on the cover.
